Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What should I wear for class?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing and consider layering to adapt to changing temperatures and to allow the body to warm up during practice. The ideal clothing can vary from person to person.
Qigong involves movement in place—up, down, and side to side—so flat, comfortable gym shoes with good support are recommended. Practicing in bare feet is not advised.
Qigong can feel challenging at first, as the warm-up and meditative movements may be difficult to sustain if there is not yet a habit of moving the spine up and down, twisting, and turning. It is important to begin at the current level of ability, and all movements will be guided by correct principles that are explained in detail in each class.
Taiji offers gentle, holistic health benefits by combining slow, mindful movements with deep, relaxed breathing. Regular practice helps improve balance, flexibility, and joint mobility while reducing stress and tension in the body. The slow, deliberate approach calms the nervous system, supports better posture, and encourages mental clarity. Over time, this meditative practice can enhance overall vitality, promote emotional well-being, and support a more harmonious connection between body and mind.
2. What should I bring to class?
Bring a water bottle for hydration. Depending on your fitness level you may or may not need this.
Phones on airplane mode please, whilst we will do our best to manage practicing under the trees at the edge of the park facing the sea and navigating this public space we can at least switch off our mobiles for an hour.
6. Please inform me of any injuries before class so I can modify the movements accordingly for you.
3. Is Qigong or Tai Chi difficult at first?
It takes a while to get used to standing in place and it can take a while for the body to become more flexible and pliable and initially Qigong can be hard on the back , knees and shoulders - this also depends on the persons / individual's body and training history
4. Are the classes suitable for beginners?
Yes. The classes are open to newcomers and experienced practitioners alike. No previous experience of Tai Chi, Qigong or meditation is needed.
New students are guided clearly through the movements, while those with more experience can use the class to deepen their practice, refine their awareness and reconnect with the principles of Tai Chi.
5. How much does a class cost?
